Artificial intelligence, which has become a hot topic in Türkiye recently, once again attracted attention with an intriguing news story. A dispute between a landlord and a tenant in Üsküdar, Istanbul, was resolved by artificial intelligence. The process and outcome behind this news are both surprising and thought-provoking. Court Decision: The Solution Was Found in Aİ
The disagreement over the rent increase between the landlord and tenant was taken to court. Both parties had different expectations. Of course, an expert report was initially prepared, but the outcome did not satisfy either the tenant or the landlord. Then, as the court could not reach a decision, an unusual step was taken.
In order to resolve this complex situation, the court decided, “We will ask for artificial intelligence.” Yes, a court turned to artificial intelligence to resolve a dispute between humans. How does AI do it? Who’s view prevailed? We can already hear your questions and will answer them right away. Artificial intelligence collects past data, analyses the characteristics and prices of similar houses in the vicinity, and calculates a value in seconds. This results in a data-supported solution. The price set by artificial intelligence was accepted by the court. In other words, an issue over which humans could not agree, the one where the court could not provide a verdict, was resolved by artificial intelligence in a matter of seconds.
Landlord Accepting the Aİ Decision (!)
One of the most striking aspects of the story is that the landlord did not contest the rent price set by artificial intelligence. Moreover, the price set by AI was actually below the landlord’s expectations. After failing to resolve the dispute with the tenant in court and contesting the expert report, the landlord was asked, “Don’t you object to the decision made by AI?” To this, the landlord simply replied, “No,” expressing acceptance of the AI’s decision. We are left wondering how it came to be that we now consider the findings of artificial intelligence to be superior to human reasoning or decisions. As a result, what artificial intelligence decided was accepted, and this decision by the court was recorded as a precedent.
